Jordi Martin

CEO, Work Dynamics Asia Pacific, Australia

This International Women’s Day and every day, we are proud to recognize our inspiring women leaders and allies at JLL.
Who is a female inspiration/role model to you and why?

I will say that my mother is one female inspiration for me. She was the first female mayor elected to the Randwick Council in 1992. Randwick Council is the second oldest council in New South Wales, Australia. She was 62 at the time.

She ran for office because she was concerned with the politics of the nation at that time, and she felt she needed to make a difference. She had an influence on the dynamics of that organization, which was principally male dominated since its formation. She was able to inspire other women around her to believe they can be more than they think, and they have the power to impact society.

Some of her significant achievements was the restoration of the Coogee Beach front, the continuing expansion of the Prince of Wales Hospital and the University of New South Wales. She said one of the great privileges of being the mayor was hosting the monthly citizenship ceremonies, welcoming new Australian citizens from diverse cultures and countries to the local community.

Why does inclusion matter to you?

I found that having women on my team changes its dynamics and women bring different perspectives, which leads to richer conversations and better outcomes.

We have a diverse client base and many clients expect to see inclusivity in our team. Having a diverse and inclusive team allows us to understand and respond to client needs better than we would otherwise. Internally, the voice of our women colleagues have influenced our culture and policies, making JLL an increasingly more desired company to work in.

How are you inspiring women to achieve their ambitions at JLL?

I am fully behind providing equal opportunity in promoting women to leadership and management levels. A key aspect is to help our women colleagues build their profiles in our organization. Last year, Corporate Solutions Asia-Pacific established Women in Account Management, an initiative led by Marina Krishnan. WiAM offers networking, learning and development opportunities, as well as a mentoring program to support the career ambitions of our women colleagues.
